1. What is Sorona®?
Sorona® is the world leader in polymer technology ---- DuPont America's newest spinning grade polymer. Sorona® delivers the perfect combination of high performance and eco-friendly products.
2. Sorona®'s End Customers and Market Sorona® is primarily used in the fiber market, including textile and apparel yarns and fabrics, as well as household, commercial and automotive carpet yarns. Currently used in Asia mainly in clothing.
3. What are the characteristics and applications of Sorona® in the apparel sector? Sorona® offers an excellent combination of performance in a wide range of apparel applications: excellent soft feel, comfortable elasticity and unique restorative properties, as well as colorful, chlorine / UV resistant, etc. . Sorona® can be blended or interwoven with any other fiber - including rayon (such as polyester, nylon, spandex, etc.) and natural fibers (such as cotton, hemp and wool). Products are widely used in shirts, pants, suits, jackets, jeans, underwear, sportswear and other fields.
4. Sorona environmental value of the embodiment
Sorona® has triple play value. First, producing the same amount of Sorona® polymer reduces energy consumption by 30% compared to nylon 6 * from petrochemicals. Second, producing the same amount of Sorona® polymer reduces carbon dioxide emissions by 63% compared to nylon 6 * from petrochemicals. And Sorona® reduces its dependence on petroleum and petrochemicals because it uses raw materials derived from non-oil renewable resources (resources that can be multiplied over a year) rather than petrochemical feedstocks. Sorona® polymer, 37% by weight, is derived from non-oil renewable resources, meaning that Sorona® uses 37% less petrochemical feedstock than traditional petrochemical synthetic fibers. And its durability and superior serviceability, such as less fading and less distortion, make Sorona® made fibers and clothing more sustainable.
5. If 37% of Sorona® is sourced from renewable resources, what is the raw material for the remaining 63%?
Other ingredients (monomer) is currently made of petrochemical raw materials. Ingredients derived from renewable resources in Sorona®: Bio-based PDO ™ polymerizes with DMT (dimethyl terephthalate) or TPA (terephthalate) to form Sorona® polymers. At present, DMT and TPA are all from petrochemical raw materials.
