Under the guidance of relevant policies in recent years, China has initially formed an industrial chain for recycling, sorting, dismantling, and processing of used textiles. However, the recycling rate of waste textiles in China is still less than 20%.
According to the data of the Prospective Industry Research Institute, in the recycling of renewable resources, the recycling value of waste textiles increased significantly, and the proportion in 2017 increased by more than 50%. Therefore, how to achieve high-quality recycling of waste textiles is an important issue in the industry. This is also the original intention of the "2019 Waste Green Textiles High-value Utilization Green Industry Chain Innovation Forum" held in May 2019.

According to Professor Wu, this composite material can be recycled many times and can be widely used in industries, agriculture, construction and life, providing a new way for recycling and recycling of waste fiber.

Associate Professor Fan Wei, the team leader, said that smart wearable textiles with real-time monitoring functions such as heart rate, pulse and human motion status will be popular. Currently, he and his team have made some smart wearable textiles with piezoelectric fibers.
It is worth noting that innovation “textile” will increasingly integrate into every aspect of life. Some materials and clothing with special functions will be the focus of future research and development, such as no-wash, anti-bacterial deodorization, moisture absorption and quick drying.
The data show that China has accumulated more and more experience in the utilization of waste textile resources and can obtain more innovative clothing raw materials through the resource utilization of waste textiles, and further exploration is needed.
According to the industry's rough calculation, if China's waste textiles can be fully recycled, it is equivalent to saving 24 million tons of crude oil and nearly one-third of the cotton planting area per year, which can reduce carbon dioxide emissions by 80 million tons.
Especially in the exploration of promoting the high-quality recycling of waste textiles, there is no shortcut, only to go forward.
