SORONA, Chinese Sorona, Sorona polymer is made from two main raw materials, 1,3-propanediol (PDO) and PTA (or DMT). PDO can be made through a petrochemical process, and DuPont of the United States has successfully used corn sugar fermentation to efficiently produce the PDO required for the production of Sorona, thus revolutionizing the chemical fiber field and injecting a new concept of environmental protection.
Glucose is obtained from corn, and under the action of genetically modified bacteria, it is fermented to produce PDO (1,3 propanediol), which is purified and dehydrated by distillation.
